Reprogramming PS5 BIOS or Replacing BIOS Chip

Is the BIOS memory of your PlayStation 5 corrupted, incorrectly programmed, or does the BIOS chip itself need to be replaced? With this mainboard repair, the PS5's BIOS area is checked and – depending on the damage – reprogrammed or the memory chip is replaced.

This repair is particularly suitable for consoles with an already diagnosed BIOS problem or for devices where the BIOS chip or its content has been damaged by a previous repair or programming process.

Scope of Services

  • Checking the BIOS area on the PS5 mainboard
  • Reading out or checking the existing BIOS chip, if technically possible
  • Saving usable existing data, if possible
  • Reprogramming the BIOS memory for a suitable chip
  • Desoldering and resoldering the BIOS chip if replacement is necessary
  • Programming the replacement chip with the data required for the device
  • Checking solder joints and surrounding components
  • Final functional test of the console

When is this repair suitable?

  • A BIOS error has already been diagnosed.
  • The BIOS chip was damaged during a previous repair attempt.
  • The BIOS memory was written to or programmed incorrectly.
  • A previous BIOS programming process failed.
  • The BIOS chip must be replaced due to electrical or mechanical damage.
  • The console has already been examined and the fault narrowed down to the BIOS area.

Important Note

General error patterns such as "PS5 won't start", "PS5 turns off again", or "PS5 shows no picture" do not automatically mean that there is a BIOS defect. These symptoms can have numerous other causes on the mainboard.

If the BIOS area has not yet been clearly identified as the cause of the error, we recommend a PS5 fault diagnosis first.

BIOS Chip Damaged

If the existing memory chip is electrically or mechanically damaged and can no longer be reliably programmed, the chip can be replaced as part of this repair. Whether a replacement is necessary will be decided after inspecting the mainboard.

Previous Repair Attempts

If work has already been done on the BIOS chip, please inform us what work was carried out. Existing BIOS dumps or backup files of the original chip are particularly helpful.

Additional damage to traces, solder pads, or other mainboard components will be discussed with you before any additional chargeable work.
